An approach to networks and networks as a heuristic metaphor and methodological tool in collection research
Sammlung und Netz

A collection brings objects together and links them, whereby the structure structurally and functionally replicates the basic characteristic of the network. With regard to collection practice, networking processes can be observed everywhere. Objects are currently being connected to each other in potentially infinite networks with the help of modern technologies - but also disconnected again. Does this also apply to entire collections?

This volume documents a conference that took place at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel as part of the Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel (MWW) research network. The contributions position actors of collecting, collections as such and collection research with reference to the network model and against the background of networking practices, data networks and network-analytical technologies. On the basis of historical and contemporary case studies, collections and their protagonists are traced and analyzed in networked and at the same time as networked constellations.
