Website of the Project: Handschriften Fontanearchiv

Hundreds of pages of Fontane manuscripts and the most important resource for Fontane research are now available on the web. With the publication of the completely redeveloped web presence www.fontanearchiv.de, which has been expanded to include archive portal functions, the Theodor Fontane Archive of the University of Potsdam in collaboration with the Berlin web agency Cosmoblonde, the TCDH and the Digital Humanities Network of the University of Potsdam completed the first phase of its digital strategy on March 7, 2019, just in time for the Fontane Year.

The Fontane Archive on the Web

On the archive portal, the Theodor Fontane Archive makes more than 16,000 records on literature by and about Fontane as well as more than 400 pages of Fontane manuscripts and documents - including a diary, a Fontane family household book and part of the manuscript for "Der Stechlin" - available for research and public use. The data from the manuscript collection was entered using the virtual research environment FuD 'work in progress'. The TCDH team adapted FuD to the requirements of the project and, starting from the data stored in FuD, built a virtual research environment that holds not only the digitized manuscripts but also their transcriptions.
