Whether everyday culture, architecture, book illustration, heraldry, naming - animals are omnipresent in the medieval world, which is why animals enjoy special attention in various contexts in medieval literature. The long term goal of the project was to merge the existing knowledge on animals in the literatures of medieval Europe in the form of a digital lexicography.

In order to almost completely describe the representation, meaning and function of animals in medieval literature, the choice of the lexicon format is recommended; because the exemplar-specific manual could at best provide relevant excerpts from the entire complex. In the third-party funded project, the first entries were made in international and interdisciplinary cooperation. The TCDH created the graphic interfaces for the edition of the lexicon articles.
